If you are looking for something to do in Summit County, look no further than Tenderfoot Trail. The trailhead is in Dillon, just past the water tank off Hwy 6. If you are looking to hike or bike, walk the dogs, motorbike or just get some fresh air, you can do it here. Tenderfoot Trail lets you choose your adventure.
Hiking Tenderfoot Trail
If you are looking for a quick hike on a sunny hillside, the Tenderfoot Trail is a great option. Heading up to the bench, a popular ending point with a great view, will be about 1.3 miles. You can head back down the way you came or continue on to make a loop. If you continue on, there are many options to choose from making the hike as long as you’d like. When you pass through the fence, the trail is open to motorized vehicles so you may encounter e-bikes or motorcycles. The trail is only open to motorcycles June 21st to October 9th.
Mountain biking on Tenderfoot
If you are a strong biker, you can bike up the Tenderfoot Trail. I am a beginner still so I can ride the relatively flat Oro Grande Trail. It turns into a single track and goes about 3.75 miles out to the Oro Grande South Trailhead, by the shooting range. Turn off on another trail beforehand or choose another route back. There are several options that will keep your rides new and exciting.
Motorbiking the Tenderfoot Trail
Motorcycles & e-bikes need to start at a different spot as the Trailhead closest to the water tower is open only to non-motorized vehicles. You can start at the shooting range and access these motorcycle trails and several others off of a dirt road. I’m able to take look at all these trails using the CO Trex app. It’s free and a great app to have just in case you have questions about where you are or where you are going. It also tells you what activities are allowed on the different trails.
Choose your adventure
No matter what you are up for, the Tenderfoot Trail is a great choice. Hike, bike, horseback ride, motorbike or e-bike and make your adventure as long or short as you choose.
