A request for variance submitted to Governor Polis by Summit County was mostly denied Sunday. The only winner was Arapahoe Basin. A-Basin is allowed to open for skiing and riding on Wednesday, May 27th with some restrictions!
Make your reservation
A-Basin is allowed 600 skiers per day. Reservations must be made in advance. If you are not a pass holder, some lift ticket are available, also through the reservation process. Reservations are available 36 hours before the ski day. For example, if you want to make it out Wednesday, reservations start at 7PM on Monday. My suggestion is to be online at 7PM. Who knows how long it will take to max out the 600 slots. Print out your reservation and take it, along with your pass or ID, on your reserved day.
Don’t forget your gator
Face coverings are required. It’s going to be hot opening week so find the lightest one you can. Wear it whenever you are within 6 feet of someone not in your household and in designated areas. Don’t hang out with your buddies and don’t bring your grill. Tailgating is not allowed. This opportunity is for you to get your turns in. Eat your sandwich on the lift and grab as many turns as you can safely. Every injury puts ski patrol at risk. An outbreak or non-compliance could take away our fun. Don’t be that guy.
Uphill access opens too
With the A-Basin uphill access pass, you can skin up the mountain when the lifts aren’t turning. Hopefully fewer people will elect to skin up and this can be the same satisfying experience it has always been.
Plan to drive home
Unfortunately, the denials in the variance included opening in-restaurant dining and short term rentals. Because of this denial, we’re hoping for a June 1st start date but that remains to be seen. Get your room in Eagle County if you have to. Their variance was approved.
With snow on Memorial Day weekend, it makes this announcement even more exciting! Hopefully we can keep getting snow and keep the lifts turning into the summer. Read all the rules and reserve your spot. But mainly, be safe out there!
