Now that it is April, the Colorado ski season is winding down. Spring is a great time to get out and enjoy some time on the slopes. The great snow we have enjoyed for the 2022-2023 ski season has allowed several of our local ski areas to extend their seasons. Some have already closed, most have just a few weeks left, but a few will remain open even as the temperatures climb. The latest CO ski area closing dates for 2023 are listed below.
Spring skiing at CO ski areas
We seem some epic storms in April so don’t be too quick to write off the end of the season. When it’s not snowing, warmer daytime temperatures and cold nights give us variable snow conditions ranging from icy to mushy. Skiing in the spring is often strategic with the best time mid day; perhaps 11-1pm. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen. The Colorado sunshine will quickly redden your cheeks. If it happens often enough, you’ll find yourself sporting a goggle tan.
Ski area closing dates
Many ski areas are on National Forest land so the dates they can operate must be approved by the forest service. As a result, many ski areas will have to close even while there is still good snow. Some areas of the resort may still close even with the extended season. Expect limited terrain in the extended season and less as the snow melts. Here are the CO ski area closing dates for 2023. Of course, these dates are subject to change.
