When you get a new home in Summit County it generally comes with everything. You’ll have appliances, furniture, bedding and even dishes when you close. That’s the beauty of second homes, they are typically turn key. However, just because it comes with everything, it doesn’t mean you like it or don’t want to replace it. It means you can do so at your discretion. Xcel, our local power company, offers many energy rebates on appliances and heating systems that you may be able to cash in on.
Refrigerators
When you get a new refrigerator, if you’re old one still works, you may have to pay to have it hauled off. Xcel will pay you $50 and haul away your old fridge. You do have to fill out an application online and schedule your pick up. A little more hassle than just having the delivery guys take it away, but Xcel will mail you a check.
Thermostats
If you’re in the market for a smart thermostat that you can control on your phone, Xcel has some with instant rebates available when you buy through the Xcel website. I haven’t checked prices on these products so do your due dilligence to make sure they are in fact a good deal before purchasing.
Heating and Cooling
If your furnace or hot water heater needs upgrading too, see what Xcel will pay you for choosing energy efficient products. In other areas they will help you with cooling system rebates but there are very few homes with air conditioning in Summit County so it’s not really a concern here.
Renewable
If you want to go renewable energy like solar or wind, Xcel has incentives that could help mitigate some of the cost.
There is a little extra work involved but taking the time can not only get you a energy efficient product, but get you a few extra dollars via energy rebates in your pocket.
