Short Term Rental Prohibition in Summit County Extended

It was just announced that Summit County, Colorado is not ready to welcome out of town visitors yet. Officials are extending the short term rental prohibition beyond the initial April 30 date. The extension now goes until the end of May.

Typically, May is not a busy time of year in Summit County. Recreation is more difficult. It could still snow but most ski areas are closed this time of year. Hiking and biking trails are either snow packed or muddy. As a result, there is not high demand for short term rentals.

In my opinion, government officials felt extending the prohibition through May would have minimal, additional impact on property owners and businesses but could have a big impact reducing the spread of Coronavirus.

Frisco BBQThis year will be different in our quaint mountain towns. Even after short term rentals are allowed again, large gatherings may be made smaller or postponed to later dates. The town of Frisco recently moved the annual Frisco Barbecue from it’s typical June date to September 25th & 26th.

Summertime in Summit County is always a beautiful time of year. That’s not going to change. When the county is open to visitors again, come and experience the amazing mountains and skies that we all love so much.
