St Jude Children’s Research Hospital gives away dream homes across the country annually. It is their single biggest fundraiser. This year they are giving away 30 homes including one in Denver and one in Colorado Springs. Even though I don’t want to move to Denver or Colorado Springs, I like to support St Jude. This year’s giveaway date is November 13. In their first dream home fundraiser in 1991, St Jude raised $160,000. Now their fundraiser helps the hospital by the tune of more than $23 million each year.
Thankfully I have never had the need to use the hospital located in Memphis, Tennessee. They are one of the premier pediatric cancer research centers. Their research focuses specifically on cancers, some acquired and inherited immunodeficiency, sickle cell disease, infectious diseases and genetic disorders.
St Jude treats approximately 7800 children every year; most as out-patients. On top of the cutting edge research, expansive clinical trials and improving survival rates of devastating childhood diseases, families that need their services never receive a bill from St Jude. St Jude believes families should focus on helping their child live without the pressure of finances. These are just a few of the reasons I was compelled to buy a couple $100 tickets.
