So finally, we made it out to see the Breckenridge Troll, Isak Heartstone. He was initially built by a commissioned artist last summer but the location was not the best. He was getting too much attention and his neighbors were unhappy about it. To keep the peace, Breckenridge had him taken apart and stored for the winter. This summer he found his forever home near the ice skating rink and was rebuilt.
His new location is a great spot! Really easy! Park in the skating rink parking lot off Boreas Pass Road and take a short trek on a well built path. The signs say it’s .3 miles but I’m not sure it was that far. There’s a little stream there and a picnic table. There were several people just hanging out enjoying the area while we were there.
The Breckenridge Troll is a giant, wooden sculpture sitting in the forest. This time he is holding onto a tree next to him. In his previous location he had built a cairn. If you haven’t heard of a cairn before, it is a stack of rocks marking the location of trails. This is a really cool way to enjoy art and everyone should take the time to go and visit Isak.
More information about the Breckenridge Troll can be found in an article by the Summit Daily, our local paper.
