A wildfire, named the Ptarmigan Fire, broke out late Tuesday afternoon on Ptarmigan Mountain. It’s just above the Angler Mountain and Hamilton Creek neighborhoods in Silverthorne. As a result, several homes were evacuated and put on pre-evacuation notice. Luckily, cooler and wetter weather arrived Tuesday afternoon as well.
Ptarmigan Fire evacuates homes
The Silverthorne wildfire is approximately 85-100 acres. The homes that have been evacuated since the fire started will be down graded to pre-evacuation status. Homeowners can go back home but they won’t be resting easy. The threat is not over yet. The rainy weather has helped firefighters get a handle on the fire but there is still little containment. A change in the weather could easily take any security away.
Buffalo Mountain Fire
The last large fire in Summit County was the Buffalo Mountain Fire. That fire evacuated homes on the west side of Highway 9 in Silverthorne. No homes were damaged in this fire. Hopefully, the Ptarmigan Fire will have the same result.
