Summerwood is a unique little subdivision at the edge of Lake Dillon. The very top of Summerwood is on a ridge that overlooks Lake Dillon, and the views are spectacular. Of course, there are not a lot of homes on the Ridge. The majority of the homes in the subdivision also have spectacular views, and they look east, toward the Continental Divide. Winter or summer, it is a view that you don’t tire of.
When the owners of the home at 243 High Meadow Drive built their home, they made the entire wall facing the view a window wall. In addition to the windows, there is a large deck from which to enjoy the view as you barbeque or entertain.
A Home with Character
This home in Dillon has character, and lots of it. I see homes by spec builders who are building for the masses. Everything is vanilla, as they want to be able to please as many Buyers as possible. If people want to add their own little individual touches, they have to do it with furniture or by renovating after they close. The owners of this Dillon home built it for themselves, and had all the doors, hardware, woodwork, fireplace and mantel, all custom made for them. If they had outrageous taste, it would be a problem, but instead, they added a touch of Taos, and it came off very well.
The walls are all hand troweled with rounded corners, and in some places, hand painted tiles are embedded in them. Stair and loft railings are log, and the stairs are open with rustic stair treads.
Saltillo tile welcomes you into the entryway and follows through to the kitchen where new granite countertops complement the warm colors of the tile. Moving into the living room you find hand carved spirals, made especially as accents for this home, and they fit beautifully with the corbels and beams that run into the vaulted ceiling.
A Beautiful Living Area
The living room, with its wood floors and wall of windows, opens out on to the deck and the view. The dining area, with custom built-ins and and nearby niche which the owners used as a bar, adds to the character of the home.
A double sided gas fireplace that can be wood burning is between the living room and kitchen. It has an arched opening on both sides, the kitchen side having tile accents, and the living room side, a hearth and mantel with plenty of space for artwork above. The television is hidden in an arched cabinet, also with custom made doors.
Character in a home is a hard thing to define, and sometimes we Realtors tend to use to overuse the word. It often has come to mean weird or “funky”. This home is anything but, and although it won’t suit everyone, there is a special Buyer out there who is searching for a home just like this one. They will love it just as much as the current owners, who are sad to be leaving it.
