Colorado Restaurants Opening May 27th

Restaurant behind the scenesWe just heard that Governor Polis has just given the authorization for Colorado restaurants to offer dine-in options beginning Wednesday, May 27th. Of course, there are a ton of precautions that must be taken to ensure both customer and employee safety.

Restaurants will be able have a maximum of 50% occupancy. It will be highly unlikely that any restaurant will be able to safely get that many people into their dining area. Tables are required to be 6 feet apart which will severely impact the number of tables that can be open for customers. Restaurants are strongly encouraged to require reservation to minimize the number of people waiting for tables. If there is a wait, people should be waiting off premises for their tables. Menus are another change for most restaurants. They should be disposable, on a board, or available electronically via the customers’ own device. The number of objects that are handled by multiple people is being reduced in any way possible. Any self serve options for drinks or buffet type food is not allowed.

Summit County restaurants will have a little time to adjust to the new rules. After that, Frisco and Breckenridge should have plans in place to close a portion of their Main Streets to cars. Outdoor dining will be the trend for the summer. The extra space will allow restaurants to have more tables, do even more business and, hopefully, be profitable.
